“This is, perhaps, the greatest risk any of us will ever take - to be seen as we truly are." Oftentimes we find ourself up the creek, without any idea of where we are going, or how we got there. We barely open our eyes before convincing ourselves there is no one around to help and that we are inevitably lost. This reminds me of Uncle Andrew convincing himself that the talking beasts of Narnia, and Aslan himself, were merely making growls and noises. It was an observation of C.S. Lewis that “the trouble about trying to make yourself stupider than you really are is that you very often succeed.” (The Magician’s Nephew, 1977, pg. 117) The wording seems harsh but it’s a relevant sentiment. As humans, we do well at convincing ourselves. Convincing ourselves we are alone, that the struggles we are facing are ours and ours only to deal with. This is of course, far from the truth. Society tells us that vulnerability is a weakness, we’re here to support that you can turn it into your strength. And this is where we point you to Brene Brown’s The Power of Vulnerability.
Vulnerability allows us to realise that we’re not alone in a boat at all and, the more in said boat, the easier it is to paddle! Here at TMPC, we want to encourage the vulnerability that poetry, literature and our own written creations can embody. Writing matters. Which segues us to Written Matters Night! What is Written Matters? The shorthand definition of ‘literature’. Yeah, we’re that creative and profound (#art). Our hat tip to the world of creating and sharing written art. The purpose of TMPC is to Create Community and Extend Hope in more ways than just the social/economic sphere. We want to create a community of creators! We have the opportunity to come together and share works we adore, and/or works we have created. The first Written Matters night will be held Sunday night, 17th April, 7:30PM-8:30PM. If you would be interested in participating (writing, reading or sharing) please contact: [email protected] for further information. (Literature/pieces of any style can be shared (e.g. comedic, non-fiction etc) however please keep in mind we want to rise by lifting others. We want to share art that extends hope).
