Brisbane Cafe Review: Scout

The Meeting Place Cafe reviews the coffee and atmosphere of Scout Cafe in Brisbane, Australia
Take a stroll on a Saturday morning through Roma Street Parkland, and you’ll find a corner cafe brightly muraled with a goat and a brekky bagel. You’ll also most likely find a small crowd waiting outside for a table at the neighborhood favorite, but believe me, the wait is well worth it.

Scout is about as hipster of a cafe as you’ll find. The menu is filled with unique tonics, fresh juices, and quality coffees. Peek at the food menu and you’ll find an ample amount of avocado and interesting names for garnishes. The cafe itself is decorated with mismatched tables and art, and features goods from local artists to purchase. Of course, there’s some hanging plants too, because can you even call it a cafe these days if it doesn’t have some good plant life?

If it’s all sounding a little pretentious, have no fear: Scout balances it all with an authentic and down-to-earth atmosphere. Paired with the rustic design and amazing scents, you feel immediately at home, as if you just stepped into some kind French grandmothers home. The staff is incredibly helpful and friendly, and it’s evident that they enjoy working at Scout.

The only downside of Scout is the struggle you’ll face trying to decide what to order, so if you find yourself gaping at the menu, here’s a few suggestions:

  • Looking for a savory breakfast big enough to split (or just for yourself, no judgements here)? Order the Scouts Honor, which can be ordered the meat-filled way or vegetarian, which are equally satisfying and delicious.
  • If you’re hoping for something on the sweeter side, treat yourself with the brioche french toast that’s served with chocolate ganache, mandarin oranges, almonds, and vanilla ice cream. Yeah, you read that right.
  • You can’t go wrong with any of their drinks, but the iced ginger pear and lime tonic is the perfect refresher on a warm day. Otherwise, just order your favorite espresso drink, and you’ll be far from disappointed (the soy latte I got was one of my favorites I’ve had in the whole city).
  • If you really can’t decide (and I don't blame you), go with friends. Each order something different with the intentions of stealing bites from one another, and you’ll get a good idea of just how well Scout does everything they offer.
  • Whatever you do, don’t leave without picking up one of their homemade muesli bars. That’s really all I have to say on that subject. They’re just that good.

So next time your friend hits you up for some laid-back brunch, head to this lovely cafe where they serve it all day. You won’t leave disappointed, and you definitely won't leave hungry. I swear it on scouts honor.

Occassions that Call for Coffee

16/5/2018

We're advocates for coffee at any time - but there are some moments in particular that seem just a little incomplete without a good cuppa. It adds an element of coziness, familiarity, and delightful caffeination that can move a "good" moment to a "great" one, don't you think?

Each month we scour the web for interesting coffee finds to share with you. This month, we came across this simple but interesting infographic about what's going on in your cup of coffee! Topics of address include the health benefits of drinking coffee, chemicals to be aware of, and why caffeine might be better for you, to name a few.
What we like about this infographic is that there is a little more of a scientific focus and minimalist organization of information. Take a look!

What is in your coffee? Health benefits of coffee. Chemicals to be aware of in your coffee...
